happiness in the post

Today my beautiful, beautiful beret arrived, knitted specially by knitfish! And my comic by Ben Powis, very cool. Powis's layouts and pictures are gorgeous, with a slightly '70s macramé-era look, lovely textures, and the story is a simple, mythical style quest that works very well. I'm not so keen on the shiny paper and heavy black borders, I think they detract from the delicate linework and colours, but I definitely want to keep an eye on what this guy's doing.

If there's any way you can get to Oxford on the 9th of August, mark your diaries for Caption! I'll be doing a DFC panel with Garen Ewing, Kate Brown and Neill Cameron. The guy who originally hooked me up with the DFC work, Paul Gravett, will also be giving a talk, along with Nick Abadzis, Rian Hughes and Ilya. It's going to be great!

I'm also taking part in a DFC Family Fun Day workshop at London's Cartoon Museum on Saturday, 12 July. It runs from noon to 4pm, more details coming soon!

I don't think I'm on a panel... I'm just going to be there (hopefully!)

It'll be one of those panels with more people on the panel than in the audience! Last time I was on a panel that kept adding people and I was stuck on a chair at the end, almost in the corner of the room and didn't say a thing. I felt a bit ridiculous...

By the way - love the hat (and the hairy clouds)!

Aw c'mon, you know you want to... We can have a great time feeling ridiculous together and I'll buy you a pint or two (before or after, whichever is more conducive to getting you there).

I should say I've been on two other Caption panels that were great fun to do. I'm just joking really - but there will be more DFC creators than not at Caption (which is one of the reasons I'm determined to finish my strip in time and be there).

BE THERE, Garen, or I shall be bereft! Oxford's fine ales taste not half as well when mixed with the salt water of many tears...

Good luck with your strip!

Dunno about 'more DFC than not' but we're also working on getting David F himself there, too... Having said that I wouldn't want the panel itself to be over-large. I've volunteered to chair it so will want it a bit under control!

Ha ha... you're never get the DFC gang under control... we're a treacherous, bloodthirsty lot (as you can see hinted so clearly in the Vern & Lettuce episodes).

Obviously I meant 'more DFC than not' in jest - I hope it doesn't drown out Caption too much though! With you chairing, Jenni, all will be good. I feel such a fan of the comic myself, however, that i think I'd prefer to be in the audience... I've got some difficult questions to ask Sarah about Vern and Lettuce's relationship, and also those raisins...
