DFC issue 6!

Looking good, with a typically mental cover from Lorenzo Etherington. James Turner's Super Animal Adventure Squad made me laugh, there's something so very English about his sense of humour. I got very absorbed in the robot war in Mo-bot High, but then the sudden switch to a particularly cosy episode of Vern & Lettuce seemed a bit stark, hmm. (Did anyone else think so?)

And I was just on my way back from coffee with Jeff the Aussie barista in Greenwich and stopped by to see the newly converted rail carriage cafe on Deptford High Street, just between the rail station and the street market.

And unfortunately that issue of the DFC is already listed as sold out!? What gives? I just wanted to order the next bunch of issues after I received #1-3 last week and absolutely loved em and already I´m missing one issue... :(

Hey, I haven't heard the official line yet, but one of our team recommends checking back in a week or so, you might be able to order it then. Something to do with the printing system.

Well, what do you know, they just wrote me back, after I contacted them about the problem and said that they´d restock soon. Actually, as I write this, the issue is already listed in their online store again. Yay! Now off to order the missing issue.

(That´s me with the "oingoboingo"-id up above, by the way. Had to tweak my openID a bit, as I don´t have an LJ-account).

We think Vern and Lettuce look great - but we won't get that particular issue for three more weeks!

Love that cafe.

I guess it does take awhile to get to Moscow. Does your post go direct, or through another country? Mine went through either London or New York when I had a post box there.

Hey thanks for the add!

I don't know anything about this DFC malarky! It happened just as I was leaving England. It sounds like a great idea, though... how often does it come out?

Sure thing! :-) Yeah, the DFC's great, and it comes out weekly. Right now it's by subscription only - http://www.thedfc.co.uk

Sarah,

Remember kids don't read a comic like us adults do i.e from beginning to the end.

My boys read what they like first, which is currently Vern & Lettuce and they they'll go onto what they like next, currently Super Animal Adventure Squad. So I would not worry about the contrast between Mo-Bot High and Vern & Lettuce. I don't think children will read the comic like that anyway.

The boys loved naked Vern this week. You sure do know how to press the funny buttons especially with Alex my youngest.

I reckon the moles will be keeping Vern up at night with that rock band of theirs!

As predicted Ben is most upset he can’t travel up to London for the DFC day on Saturday. But hopefully they’ll be another change one day?

Have a good day on Saturday. I’m sure you will

Patrick

Thanks, Patrick! It's reassuring to hear you say that. My friend Layn just said her teenage daughter's the same, she flips to her favourite strip and then her second-favourite, etc. Even my husband always flipped to New at the Zoo while it was running, that was totally his favourite (after mine, for loyalty reasons). I think he felt it related to his own workplace.
