american treats weekend

Here's something I drew (rather sloppily) last night for a meme by beatonna, on the topic of a conversation with your younger self. (Have a look at lots of them here!) She's Canadian Kate Beaton, and she's been doing some great comics lately based on historical figures.

On Saturday the 5th, I went to a barbecue with two other American Saras to celebrate the 4th of July. It seemed appropriate to do it a day late since we're all kind of cheating on the whole Independence thing by sleeping with the redcoats. Here's an amazing cake that Sara baked. She gave us some extra cake to take home and we only managed not to eat it on the train ride back and then it was gone.

(Sara's Busted dysentery t-shirt refers to the old video game The Oregon Trail.) And here's a photo of Ants on a Log, the peanut butter and the cream cheese versions.

Well it's not all video games who offer you to die from dysentery. Usually it's more like being killed by a monster or falling into a pit...

Very true! When I was little, I liked that game 'Burger Time', but I always got killed by the walking pickles. (Or gherkins, if I'm translating for Brits.)

Yes. It was OM NOM NOM.:)

I used to live in Belize, and thus was closer to America. As such I understand both american and british slang.

ants/log
The conversation comic is so sweet. That little hint of smile on your grown up face is what makes the whole thing go Puh-zam!

Re: ants/log
Puh-zam, I like that! I'll keep going for that puh-zam effect. ;-) I miss you, any chance at all of you and Leeanne coming to London in the next year or so? My parents are coming this side this time so I won't get to Seattle for awhile, sad.

ants/log/puh-zam!
I WISH we were going to be in London in the next year or so. Would love to hang out and sketch with you again. I will work on it... I'd like to see Belfast and Dublin too, and also Stonehenge. Have been wanting to take Leeann to Europe for years now.

Me, too! And the cling film always used to stick to the peanut butter and make a big mess and then I had peanut butter breath for hours, but it was all good. ;-)

Yay!
Yay! I made it onto Sarah's blog.
And now I've got a new recipe. I had never heard of Ants on a Log. Filled celery sticks, yes, but not the ants. Awesome!

Sorry -- "anonymous" really is anonymous! I should have signed it...
