drawing from memory

Today I tried to do a freehand pen sketch, with no real forward planning, to see what would happen. (Until recently, I've always had to scuff around with a pencil before attempting anything in pen, and the results were much more predictable.) It's a picture of a family meal when my sister and I were in our early teens, and my sister used to work my dad up to see how furious he could get, while I hunkered down in my seat and shovelled food in. A lovely pair of daughters we were.

Sarah, this carton is hilarious, with a ring of truth to it. Dad thought it was "interesting", an appropriate reply when one is the object of the jest, having his buttons poked. Friend Jerry walked in, saw the family cartoon, and just howled.I find the details delightful, from Homer, the cat, under the table, to the spices above the electric mixer. And of course, you captured my pointed Danish nose. What a wickedly calculating look on your sister's face. Those were rather stressful years. Now that we have cable internet, I can actually quickly view your site. xxx Mom
