mongolian throat singing

I'm sitting here having a work day (my Vern & Lettuce deadline is pressing!) and listening to a CD from Songlines magazine. I've been using it as background music, but this one song, Hunnu, by a group called Egschiglen on their Gereg album made me stop working and start grinning like a lunatic when the guy started singing. It sounds really cool, I couldn't find that exact song (darn, 'cause it's brilliant), but here's another one I found on a quick YouTube search.

Strong to the Finnich
I have to wonder if Segar and the Fliescher Bros had heard throat-singing when they came up with the voice for Popeye...

There was a Tuvan throat singer scheduled to perform in Seattle about 10 years ago -- either at the Folk Festival or Bumbershoot. Seattlites were very excited but then it turned out to be kind of a chilly day, and the singer declined to perform at the outdoor venue because it would be bad for his voice (if I'm remembering correctly -- I heard it second hand).

Aw, too bad it didn't happen. I was just listening to a recording of Bobby McFerrin, and I think he's trained himself to do the same thing; it even lets him sing two different notes at once.
