good night, everyone

Waiting for these election results is killing me, I am trying not to think about it. Last US election, I thought everything was going to be okay until I woke to the BBC radio alarm saying it was four more years of... oh, flippin' heck. I sent in my postal ballot about three weeks ago, I'm really glad they still let me vote. It's night here but still voting time over there, so after I've gone to bed, Americans, please, please keep going out and voting for Obama! Let me wake up to something good.

I've just decided to leave old Dimbleby and co. on the BBC and go to bed. I also woke up to the despondent news four years ago and felt awful all day! I wonder if I should turn my radio alarm off tomorrow... the Today programme does all kinds of weird things to my half-asleep brain at the best of times. Good luck, good night x

Re: President-Elect Obama
And thanks for giving me some voting tips! Washington had a really complicated ballot this year. I went through the Stranger list you sent with my mother as well, so we could clarify a few points, it was all good.

Re: President-Elect Obama
You're welcome. I usually have one or two issues I differ on from the Stranger. This time it was the Initiative for home health care workers. The Stranger opposed it, but I support it -- Leeann is a home health care worker for her disabled mother, and does it mainly because the state-provided workers do a crappy job of it. More training would insure that the elderly and disabled people who don't have a reponsible family memeber (like Leeann) will still get adequate care. ANyway, it looks like it's going to pass. (Yay!)

The Stranger got me to vote for a Republican! (Which is maybe the first time ever for me.) For Lt Governor -- I was skeptical, but researched the candidates and found that I agreed with The Stranger. I'm not sure who won that race...

Cool, I think those may have been two of the things my mother advised me on. I don't tend to agree with her on the big candidate decisions, but as a teacher, she's pretty shrewd with the local initiatives stuff.

Re: you draw so well
Yay, glad it arrived!

It DID feel kind of historic, writing a letter on election night! A tiny document of one person's overseas experience of a big national shift. :-)
