coffee break drawing

Hey, I just saw that Chris Riddell has illustrated a 352-page book of Don Quixote with Martin Jenkins, being released very soon by Walker Books. I just had a quick flip through, but his pictures look amazing, keep your eye out for that one.

another great drawing
I like the footrests on the stools and the scarf. And the buckle on the boot. You pick just the right details while keeping the picture clean and simple. You share this quality with some of my favorite classic cartoonits - Frank King and Gluyas Williams to name two.

Oh! Gasoline Alley, of course!!

Thanks for the link, I love the look of the thumbnail images, a gorgeous gallery. I haven't read those strips since I was a kid, in the newspaper. I liked the look of them then, but I didn't really understand the storylines. It'll be interesting to go back and see what I think of them now.

Re: another great drawing
The ones you saw in the paper when you were a kid were most likely by Dick Moores, who is a good cartoonist, but Frank King is even better. King created the strip in the 'teens and drew it until maybe the 1950's. His Sunday pages are some of the best ever made.

But now check out Gluyas Williams!

You draw so much like him -- only different.

He's a drawing machine, really amazing, both for his remarkable technical skill and the huge amount of work he pumps out every year. Have a look at the 'day in the life' comic on his website, it's very funny.

For some reason the word that comes to mind for this drawing is 'crisp'. Is that an accurate word? I'm not sure. But I do know I like the drawing.
