new year's resolution

This year I want to write a few 'proper' letters. Not just etiquette-driven thank-you note type things, but things that surprise people when they open the post and make them feel nice that someone's thinking of them. I can only remember writing one real, pen-to-paper letter last year (to David Lasky, on US election night). This one is a cross between a thank-you note for my lovely new slippers and a letter. (I think I can post it because Bridget's in Rome so she won't be looking at my blog right now.)

Thanks! I always think it's a tad fussy, but I'm getting used to it. ;-)

What a great idea! I have made a similar resolution, in actively growing my relationships and reaching out to 2 friends a month. Some of these should be letters I feel :-) I only wish I was as creative as you and could decorate them in the same way!!

Decoupage! Come to think of it, I seem to remember us going to Mags's birthday party and both giving her cards made of a picture cut out of the exact same page of the Guardian. 'How to... have a birthday' or something. That was funny.

Wow, that's a resolution to keep. My handwriting is going with age and infirmity, so letters I send out look like they were penned by Mumblin' Jim the Weirdo, but if I worked at it I could do a nice handwritten letter and send it.

Yes, just do it! (You can practice on me if you like, hehe...)

I remember getting similar illustarted letters as a child and they were always my favourite present and remain very happy memories.

I'm really enjoying your posts and illustrations. Thanks for sharing them :)

thanks again
You write/draw a mighty fine letter! The reply I sent you is horribly inferior. I will try to write a better one to you this year.

Re: thanks again
Oh no, did you send me something through the post? I don't think I got it... egads! (I've been using that word too much lately, a hangover from Mr Lodge in Archie. Or was it the butler?)

No pressure to write, it's always more fun to send letters to people who aren't expecting them. ;-) (But letters always very, very welcome, of course!)
