moomin tree

One of the great things about the new studio is that I get to look at all of Viv and Gary's books! This morning I pulled one of Viv's Tove Jansson books off the shelves and decided I'd fill our apple tree with Moomins.

Re: YES
I'm sure you're right about Little My! I didn't grow up with the Moomins, I discovered them for the first time in Homer, Alaska, about eight years ago. It was a little used bookshop in the middle of nowhere, and it seems like a kind of fitting place to have met them. But I still haven't read everything. When Viviane came into the studio, I was in the middle of drawing this, and she helped me by letting me know you'd never get a Hattifer in a tree, and Mama Moomin also probably wouldn't climb trees, although the others would. (Viv's very useful for stuff like that.)

Yeah, I never heard about them til recently! The version I first saw, of 'The Book abotu Moomin, Mymble and Little My', published by Seattle-based Blue Lantern Books, is fairly recent.

Is it strange to consider the Moomins as sort of depressing and horrible?

wow it looks just like a tove jansson original! may i aks what is it you used to do this?
it's very much in her style- it would be interesting to see a version done in your iconic style as well! (although i reeally like the medium that this was done in, whatever that is!)

man i love the moomins....it must be fantastic working with others in a studio. i had it at uni and kind of miss it. there's a real atmosphere when you work alongside other artists. you really bounce off eachother. =)
