New Mini Comic collaboration!

My friend Paul Carney and I have been working on a little booklet called The Rooks' Tale. Paul is awfully good at drawing birds, and I think we had the idea while walking through Peckham Rye Park. I had some misadventures in screenprinting the cover on brown cardboard (and I now know not to use fonts with very fine lines!) But I hope it looks all right, with a look based on the design of old Rook card games. I think we're going to photocopy the accordion pages onto nice white or cream paper and add red colour by hand.

So Paul drew all the birds and chess pieces, and I did all the little bits around them.

I love the combination of drawing styles, it really works and the bird drawings are incredible. I did a costume design project years ago for Aristophanes 'The Birds.' I spent a whole summer drawing birds... even though I'm absolutely petrified of them!
I can't wait to see this project develop! X

Thanks, Cristina! I was wondering what people would say about the combination of such different styles. I meant the simplicity of the line drawings to set off the Paul's detailed textures, and I hope it works.
