travel day

I'm back! I've ridden in a taxi, Amtrak train, another taxi, car, two airplanes, two Underground trains and a bus since yesterday (was it yesterday? It's 6am in Seattle right now and I am all confused.) I'm too tired to blog about the comics festivals, but I'll leave you with a couple things.

I took some snapshots of funny photos in my parents' old albums while I was visiting, and here's one from my very first train ride. Our kindergarten class rode from Seattle to Tacoma and back and we got fancy hats. I still remember it fairly well, it was that exciting. (I look hardcore in my denim jacket, the main character from When Titus Took the Train would approve.)

And here's a video made in Portland at Stumptown comics festival by Linda Wada (who is, incidentally, a leading expert on Edna Purviance, Charlie Chaplin's leading lady.) Thanks so much for this, Linda!

While we're at it, here's a rather fabulous song about trains. ...Aw, I love this one.

I see the video lingers several times on Jonathon Dalton's excellent precolombian comic "Lords of Death and Life" I can't recommend those enough !

Yes, I read it on the plane and it's good stuff! I love the look of the artwork of those Incas and Mayans, such interesting shapes and colours.

AM trak!
My brother and I wore those conductor caps back in the 70's!

How did you fit Amtrak into your itinerary??

And hey, it was great to see you! Thanks for coming back to the NW!

Re: AM trak!
Ha ha, you had those caps, too! How cool is that. :D

Not sure who left this note, but glad I was able to get back there! Amtrak took me from Seattle to Portland and back for the Stumptown comics festival; it's so much more civilised a way to travel than driving, and has such lovely views from the windows.

Thanks for coming to Stumptown
Thank you Sarah, for the link. Very kind. Really enjoyed meeting all of you at Stumptown. Getting signed books from all of you from London, was a real thrill.

For my very first time at a comic book festival I found it a very enjoyable day. But it was a bit overwhelming, being the first time, and even being there all day, I didn't see everything. But with so much to take in, the video is just away to enjoy it once I'm back home again. So hope you enjoyed as a souvenir of your visit too.

The Portland Mayor suddenly broke up my visit at Mr. Dalton's table as he was coming in for his appearance, but glad I got a signed copy of 'Lords of Death and Life' before Dalton got too busy, and a few others too. Wish I had more money to get more books, as there was quite lot there I enjoyed.

But, thanks to all of you, for making my first comic book festival a memorable one.

Great, glad you had such a good time, Linda! And I know what you mean about overwhelming; it was my first time, too, and I was incredibly tired at the end of each day. So many people I didn't get to talk with, but at least I got an overview of how it all works, caught up with a few people and discovered some new comics. Lovely to meet you!
