hearing voices

I had that familiar dream this morning that I was getting up, making breakfast, dressing, etc. It's much easier to draw something I need to do than to sweep all the gremlins and bits of paper off my desk. First sign of madness, I'm sure.

My parcel from Write Away arrived in the post and it really did feel like Christmas when I opened it to find Shaun Tan's The Arrival. If you haven't seen it yet, where have you been! I wrote a (slightly overlong) review here. That book is incredible, and I really like the way it seamlessly spans the gap between picture books and graphic novels. Here's some more work on his brilliant website.
I also like following Russell Ayto's work, and wrote a review of his funny The Cow That Laid an Egg here. I couldn't quite decide if I liked this book, Mr Pusskins and Little Whiskers but it has a lovely colour palette and the drawings are good.

And the simplicity of this animation made me laugh. Except I thought it should have ended with the cat trying to go to sleep on the owner's face, which is what my cat used to do all the time:

Yeah, the video doesn't give such a great sense of how bad a cat's breath can be, but it's not bad... :-)

Aw, your gremlin is cute! I think mine gave up and moved out, the state of my desk was too much for them!
Oo, I LOVE The Arrival! That's one of my most fave books ever!!!!
The cat animation is fantastic!
