Позавчера вечером Я ездила в русскии центр в Лондоне Pushkin House ....

English speakers: Did you know that LiveJournal has a massive Russian-speaking artistic community? I'm really hoping we'll get some good recommendations on comics and illustration from their part of the world. (I finished the post in handwriting because I'm rubbish at typing in Cyrillic.)

Мои любымие художники на ЖЖ/ my favourites so far on LiveJournal (otherwise known by its initials 'zhe-zhe' in Russian):

You can find a good range of illustration from Russian speakers on this self-portrait website, selfportraits.ru.

Your russian is amazing!!

A few years ago the National Gallery held a Russian Landscape exhibition, which was possibly the greatest exhibition I'd ever seen. The later works by these folk were truly awe inspiring, Isaak Levitan, Ivan Shishkin, Arkhip Kuindzhi.

I really think 19th century Russian art so often gets overlooked!

I agree, I'm totally staggered by the work that came out of that period! Shishkin... hehe, Russian kiddies love his work because one of his most famous paintings of bears in a forest was put on the front of a chocolate wrapper. So they see Shishkin and think 'chocolate'. :-D

I hadn't even considered that other countries would have their own version of the 'chocolate box lid' picture. That's brilliant. We get a soppy dog or an orphan, and russians get a bear! That's much cooler.
