morning coffee drawing

I just used my new pen nib to draw this self portrait. It doesn't look all that much like me, but that's okay. Ever since I was a kid and saw Norman Rockwell paintings, I've wanted sticky-out ears. I don't have them, but I like to draw myself with them anyway.

Two cool websites: Alex Milway referred me to the blog of Viviane Schwarz, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming Peckham launch of There are Cats in this Book. I have a copy of her book Shark & Lobster, which is a magnificent example of crossover between picture books and comics.

And my illustration critique group used to meet in the studio of Kev Hopgood, who's done a mind-boggling amount of professional comics and managed to support his family with the business, which is very encouraging. He's just launched a complete overhaul of his website here.

I guess you're enjoying your new pen :)although it's good to see you're wrapping up warm cause you look very cold.

Very cold! Jeff-the-barista gave me a little masterclass in various espressos this morning and now I am so, SO twitchy, with bug eyes and hair on end. This is not good. (I look so chilled out in my pic... it's all a lie!)

There are cats in this book
I was lucky enough to get Viviane Schwarz' s cat book to review for Writeaway and was inspired to do a bit of net surfing to find out more about her. One thing I came across (and I couldn't find a reference to this anywhere on the book but maybe I'm blind) is a knitting pattern for the cats from Walker Books website: http://www.walker.co.uk/there-are-cats/knitting-pattern.aspx

I love the pinks in your picture, especially the nosy glow.

wahoo for new pens! i am jealous, this is super clean and cute.

as a kid i was (maybe still am?) a firm believer if you pinch/pull on a part of your face 10 times every day, you can get it to do whatever you want to do!
